~Chapter 5- Gifts From the Sky~ Disclaimer: Would you give Cardcaptor Sakura to me? I don’t think so. So, Cardcaptor Sakura doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to Clamp. But I do own the measly story and plot, as well as some of the characters. So don’t take those from me too!!! All three of them froze. Sakura felt sweat trickling down her face. Well, say something... Finally, Jadeite got up and walked towards her. Sakura looked at her warily. Emerald met Viridian. There was a moment of silence, before Jadeite’s hand shot out, startling Sakura. “Hi! My name’s Jadeite! The guy with the brown hair is called Syaoran and the cutie with the black hair is Kou. I think I missed your name. Can you tell me again?” Jadeite’s smile grew wider with every word she said. Sakura looked at her, her eyes wide. Sweat was trickling down her face, and her hair was poking out in all directions. She took a few steps back. Syaoran sighed and nudged Jadeite out of the way, “That’s not the way to greet people in Magika.” then, Syaoran turned to Sakura and bowed, “Hello, my name is Li Syaoran. I’m from the Li Clan. Would you tell me your name and where you came from?” Sakura sighed in relief, “I’m Sakura Kinomoto from the MoonStar Clan. Could you tell me why your companions are acting so... weird...” Syaoran threw a look at his two companions, “Please excuse them. They’re from the real world. We’re sort of lost now. Could you...” “Ah! So you are the ones. Mistress Yue Yu wants to see you. Please follow me.” Sakura ran off. “Huh? Hold on!” Jadeite hurriedly rushed past Syaoran, after Sakura. Kou put his hands into his pockets and walked past Syaoran. “You’re going to trust that new girl and run after them?” Syaoran raised his eyebrow. “Jadeite’s all I have for a family now. And all she has is me. I have to go after her.” Kou answered without turning his head. “She’s really impulsive you know.” Syaoran directed his gaze to a small blooming white rose near him. “Of course I know.” Kou turned back and faced him, “I like her that way.” Syaoran was startled into slight surprise, his eyes widening. Kou smiled, “Come on, we’re going to lose them.” with that he started into a sprint, with a confused and bemused Syaoran hot on his heels. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (MoonStar Central Camp) Noisy chattering sounded from all over the place. Children were running all around, playing their various games. Older children were training in distant field, while a few middle-aged mothers were enjoying a quiet chat with each other. A few figures could be seen from afar, working hard in the fields. Jadeite looked at her surroundings in fascination. “Wow! This place is just so full of live!” Jadeite commented to Sakura, who was walking beside her. Sakura smiled. She so fun to be with! “Hmm... This is not what I really expected. There’s such a low level of disciplinary here. I can’t believe that this sort of clan could rival the Li Clan.” Syaoran looked passively at his surroundings. “Don’t be rude Syaoran.” Kou warned. “Nah, he might be surprised. What he said was wrong. If not for the skills and good teachers, the Li Clan wouldn’t be anywhere now. But this is only the surface of the MoonStar Clan...” Sakura cast a conservative glance at Syaoran. Syaoran’s eye twitched. How dare she make fun of the Li Clan! “Ah! We’re here!” Sakura resumed her happy-go-lucky status and pointed at a magnificent building at the end of the road. “Let’s go!” Sakura signaled for them to follow and quickened her pace. “Hey, how you doing Sorata?” she waved to a guard standing at the gate of the house, a smiling guy with light yellow-brownish hair and gray-black eyes, and walked towards him. “Hey Sakura. Who are your friends?” the guard waved back. “This is Jadeite, Kou and Syaoran,” she introduced them as she pointed at them respectically, “Mistress Yue Yu wants to see them.” “Oh! Then I better not delay you. Go on right in.” Sorata made way for them. “That guard was nice.” Jadeite said thoughtfully. “Yeah, he’s my friend...” Sakura gave a smile. Syaoran was about to give another degrading remark about the MoonStar Clan, before Kou gave him a warning look. Syaoran clamped his mouth shut and scowled. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Inside the mansion) Jadeite’s mouth hung open in surprise, “This place is huge!” “Jadeite, your mouth is hanging open.” Kou snickered. Jadeite shut her mouth in embarrassment, “Oh shut up!” Kou and Jadeite began to chide each other. Syaoran rolled his eyes at them and continued to keep his eyes on the corridor before them, while Sakura looked wistfully at them. They look so happy together. I feel so envious... A few muffled voices coming from the room at the far end of the corridor startled her into reality. “We’re nearly there! Just follow me.” Sakura quickened her pace, stopped abruptly at her destination- a brown teak door, decorated with a jade doorknocker shaped as a moon. “Come in.” a clear, pleasant voice floated out, it reminded Jadeite of Hinoto. “Wait here!” Sakura instructed, before gingerly opening and disappearing behind the door. Jadeite tensed up, her heart pounding wildly at her chest, she was fidgeting; a sure sign that she was nervous. Kou noticed this and put his hand on her shoulder, smiling. Jadeite looked up in surprise, calmed down and gave a weak smile. Suddenly, Sakura’s head poked out again, “Come on in.” and disappeared again. Jadeite gripped Kou’s hand tightly, refusing to move. Syaoran sighed, nudged them aside and entered the room. There was a moment of silence, before a shout of exclamation split the air. Jadeite and Kou, startled into action, rushed into the room without a moment’s hesitation. There, they found Syaoran being clamped into a death hug by a girl with her hair tied up into two buns of silky black, her eyes were ruby red. Sakura was standing at one side, her mouth slightly ajar and question marks were literally grouped over her head. Kou and Jadeite stood frozen at the door. “Get off me!” Syaoran yelped. “Oh, Syaoran! I’m so happy to see you! I missed you so much!” the girl continued clinging onto Syaoran oblivious to his objections. “Meilin! Get off Syaoran now!” a slightly exasperated voice commanded. “But Aunty...” the girl whined. “Now!” the person commanded. “Oh, all right...” the girl reluctantly let go of Syaoran and returned to the side of someone hidden in the shadows. “Mother, what are you doing here?” Syaoran demanded. “Why are you so angry Xiao Lang, you’re not happy to see me?” the figure stepped out revealing a beautiful lady with her long black hair done up into a hairdo not unlike Hinoto’s, her brown eyes speaking of authority. She was clad in a traditional Chinese Qi Pao/ Cheongsam and carried a chinese fan decorated with brightly colored flowers. “Of course not, Mother.” Syaoran said, checking himself. “Good. Now, you two must be the Bearers of Light and Darkness.” She turned towards Jadeite and Kou who were now extremely confused. “Huh? Yes, I am the Bearer of Light. And he is the Bearer of Darkness.” Jadeite frantically indicated to herself and Kou. “I’m pleased to meet you. My name is Li Yelan, I’m Syaoran’s mother. “she bowed before gesturing to the girl besides her, “This is Li Meilin, Syaoran’s cousin.” “Oh! My greetings to you Mrs. Li.” Jadeite bowed; placing her right hand on her heart and her left hand flaring out at her side. Kou followed the suit. “Please call me Li-san. I know it’s your custom to call me a ‘Mrs.’ but I’m not used to it.” Yelan smiled for the first time. “Of course Mrs.… uh… Li-san.” Jadeite corrected. “Now, back to business.” Yelan paused, “I’m here to see the Bearer of Darkness. I believe that’s you boy.” “Yes, I am he, Li-san. My name is Kou Niko-Aurora.” Kou stepped forward. “Good. A well-mannered boy.” Li nodded approvingly, “Now Syaoran, Kou, Meilin. Please follow me. Sakura, bring the Bearer of Light to the secret chamber.” Sakura nodded her head and quickly pulled Sakura to one side. They led a small procession out of the room with Yelan leading, followed by Syaoran and Meilin and with Kou at the end. Kou took a quick glance at Jadeite before leaving the room. “Come on.” Sakura half-pulled, half-dragged a reluctant Jadeite to the only bookshelf in the room. Sakura then began to scan the books on the shelf while asking, “Hey, what was that bow thingy you did for Lady Yelan? Is that some type of gesture to show respect?” “Yeah. We’re supposed to do that when we meet important people, relatives we’ve haven’t seen for a long time or for people we are introduced to when we first meet.” Jadeite explained. “Okay. Then why didn’t you bow to me when we first met.” Sakura questioned. “I wasn’t sure whether you were friend or foe. Actually, I was preparing to attack with that shaking hand gesture if you were an enemy.” Jadeite replied sheepishly, “What are you doing anyway?” Sakura ignored her and finally pulled out an ancient book from the bookshelf. She placed it back, backing first before pushing it hard. Suddenly, the bookshelf slid aside; causing Jadeite to jump back, revealing a spooky corridor lit up with torches. “Let’s go.” Sakura entered the corridor. “Wah! Wait for me!” Jadeite ran in after her. There was a sound of footsteps, which soon faded into the darkness. There was a grating sound as the bookshelf slowly slid shut. And there was silence in the room once more… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Garden in the MoonStar Mansion) “So, what do you need to ask me Li-san.” Kou asked calmly, his eyes cold and hard. “Hmm... what and ice cold demeanor. Which is expected from the Bearer of Darkness.” Yelan looked into Kou’s eyes. Kou felt her penetrating glaze pierce into the depths of his soul. Kou found himself quite unable to move. “Mother. Can you please continue?” Syaoran interrupted causing the woman to look away. “Of course. I’m sorry.” Yelan sat down on a posh looking chair. “Well Kou. Would you like to be in a family again?” Yelan asked simply. “What do you mean?” Kou asked warily. “I mean what I mean, would you like to be part of a big, happy family again.” Yelan tapped her hand against the chair. “Yes, it certainly would be nice.” Kou said after some thought, “But it’s a pipe dream. It will never happen.” “A pipe dream. But my dear, pipe dreams can come through too.” Yelan’s face never broke into a smile. “Tell me one’s that happened, then.” Kou said sarcastically. “Yours. Yours is happening right now.” Yelan paused to observe Kou’s reaction, which was to look confusedly at her, “The Li-Clan wants to adopt you, with me as your legal guardian.” There was silence. Kou felt as if time had frozen, all he could think was: What the hell!!!!!!!!!! “What! Mother? Are you sure.” Syaoran was the first to react. “Yes Syaoran. You’ll have a new brother. Older or younger I’m not sure though.” Yelan continued her queenly manner. “Wait. But what about Jadeite?” Kou asked. “What about her?” Yelan turned to him. “Well, she’s was, no, she is my family. I can’t just leave her!” Kou protested. “Forget about her. Who says she can’t choose to join us.” Yelan raised an eyebrow. Kou froze. She can join me. If that’s the case. Might as well… I’ll make them accept Jadeite into their family as well, I’ll agree if they do then… “Alright then. I’ll agree on the terms that you let Jadeite into your family too.” Kou finally spoke. “That won’t be a problem. She can if she wants to.” Yelan agreed, “Slit your finger with the edge of this ofuda and drip a bit of blood on it.” “Alright.” Kou did exactly what Yelan told him while Syaoran watched with his eyes furrowed, what was his mother up to now? Kou finally squeezed a drop of blood onto the ofuda and handed it back to her, “Is that enough?” “Yes. More than enough.” Yelan nodded. “I’ll go tell Jadeite about this. By the way, when do we leave?” Kou asked before leaving. “We?” Yelan asked back. “Me and Jadeite of course.” Kou said a-matter-of-factly. “Oh! Well, I’m not sure when you’ll leave. I think in about a few days, maybe a week. But I’m not sure about Jadeite, not sure at all.” Yelan casually drank a cup of tea after speaking. “What do you mean? I though she could come?” Kou asked her fist clenched. “Yes I did. But didn’t you know…” Yelan looked amused at Kou, his fist shaking and his heavy breathing… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Secret Chamber) All sorts of weapons lined the walls of the secret chamber. From swords, to spears, to clubs, to axes, to daggers, to whips, to sabers, you name it. Jadeite stared in awe. “Wow! This is so cool!” Jadeite fingered a few of the weapons. “Yeah. Mistress Yue Yu collects all sorts of weapons.” Sakura smiled. Jadeite was about to make a remark when a certain sword caught her eye. “Hmm? What’s this?” Jadeite examined the sword closely. “This is one of Mistress Yue Yu’s favorite’s sword.” Sakura informed. “Maiden.” Jadeite read the Chinese inscription on the hilt of the sword, “What an interesting name.” “Yes, interesting indeed.” A melodious and gentle voice sounded behind her. Jadeite swerved around. A lady clad in a strange white garment stood behind her. Her hair was a startling white though her face was smooth and youthful. Her eyes were the color of moonlight. “Jadeite, This is Mistress Yue Yu.” Sakura introduced. “Oh! I’m sorry. It’s a pleasure to meet you Mistress Yue Yu.” Jadeite bowed in the same strange manner which she was accustomed to. “It’s a pleasure to meet you too, Bearer of Light.” Yue Yu smiled, “I believe you’re wondering why you’re here. Would you like to know?” “Of course, Mistress Yue Yu. Who wouldn’t?” Jadeite said politely. “You’d be surprised. But anyway, do you like that sword over there?” Yue Yu gestured at the ‘Maiden’. Jadeite looked at the sword, her eyes slightly glaze. As if in a trance, she walked towards it, fingering the Chinese inscription. She grasped the sword handle, and started to pick it up. “Wait! Jadeite don’t pick that up!” Sakura warned. Without heeding, Jadeite grasped the sword handle tightly, and lifted it up to her face. A strong wind blew from it and a strange blinding aura radiated from the sword. Both Sakura and Yue Yu had to cover their eyes. The last thing Sakura could see was Jadeite floating in the air and the sword breaking up into small particles. Finally, the light died down and Sakura uncovered her eyes. Jadeite was still surrounded by a white colored aura, but the sword wasn’t in her hands anymore. Jadeite looked extremely confused, Sakura was the same. Only Yue Yu was smiling smugly, and a mysterious expression clouded her eyes. “Mistress Yue Yu, what is this about?” Jadeite demanded. “You’ve just merged with the power of the ‘Maiden’” Yue Yu said simply. “What?!” Sakura and Jadeite both exclaimed. “You heard me. Jadeite’s merged with the ‘Maiden’. She has to stay here now.” Mistress Yue Yu explained. “Wait but only the leader of the MoonStar Clan can merge with the ‘Maiden’, and that leader must have exceptionally strong power to do this.” Sakura inquired. “That’s because Jadeite is the true bearer of the ‘Maiden’, she’s also the heir to the MoonStar Clan.” Yue Yu explained. “Wait. I don’t think I can digest this information.” Jadeite held up her hand, “I’m an heir to a clan which I didn’t know of until today. I merged with a sword. What else is in store for me?” “Well, you’ll have to stay here to learn to harness the power of the ‘Maiden’” Yue Yu said a-matter-a-factly, “If not, the power inside you will destroy you.” “What?” Jadeite swallowed. Okay, I have to stay here in order to harness this power, after this, I’ll most probably get to leave. Hopefully… Jadeite sighed, “All right, I’ll stay, on the condition that Kou gets to stay too.” Yue Yu looked slightly puzzled, “You mean the Bearer of Darkness? Of course I don’t mind him staying, but I don’t know whether he can.” “What do you mean?” Jadeite asked warily, what would stop Kou from staying with her? “You mean you didn’t know?” Yue Yu glanced at her, her eyes glinting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Front Room) A pretty young girl sat on a gigantic armchair covered in red silk. Her hair was slightly mused and a tear slid out of one of her startling viridian eyes and down a rosy cheek. How am I going to tell him? Jadeite puzzled over this problem, causing her head to spin. Outside the door, a young man stood hesitantly, his hand over the doorknob. His ice-blue eyes reflected worries. How am I going to tell her? Kou massaged his tormented head. Taking a deep breath, Kou turned the doorknob and opened the door. Jadeite hastily wiped off her tears and turned around. “Kou.” Jadeite smiled forcefully. “Jadeite.” Kou returned the smile. There was silence for a while. Viridian locked into blue. Blue locked into Viridian. They let their eyes speak for each other. Finally they broke away. “So you know.” Jadeite said softly. She didn’t know whether to be happy or sad at this revelation. “Yeah, and looks like you do too.” Kou’s voice was hardly audible at its current level. “When will you be leaving?” Jadeite asked. “I’m not sure.” Kou answered. “Kou…” Jadeite suddenly pounced onto Kou, causing him to take a few steps back. “Kou, I don’t want you to leave me.” Jadeite whispered into her ear. “Neither do I, neither do I.” Kou whispered while burying his head into Jadeite’s fragrant hair. Unbeknownst to them, two certain people were watching them from afar. “Aw… That’s so sweet.” Sakura cooed. “What’s so sweet about it? They’re going to leave each other soon. You should be sad for them.” Syaoran snorted. “That’s so mean! Anyway, O Great Chosen One. When do you leave?” Sakura asked sarcastically. “I don’t know. Ask my mother. But the longer I stay here, the better.” Syaoran shrugged. “You don’t really like being the Chosen One, do you?” Sakura observed. “Yeah. It comes with so many responsibilities. Sometimes I wish I could just be a normal boy.” Syaoran said dreamily. “Hey, there are sometimes I feel like escaping from my destiny too…” Sakura smiled sadly. Syaoran looked at Sakura in surprise. “It’s true. I miss my father and my brother. Though the people of the MoonStar Clan treat me well, I just…” Sakura looked sadly towards the floor. “Hey, you’re not alone.” Sakura looked up in surprise. “Sometimes, I feel weary. Besides, I have no idea which way my destiny will lead me to my death.” Syaoran shrugged. “Still as dismissal as every aren’t we.” Sakura smiled sarcastically. “And you’re still as annoying and bouncy.” Syaoran retorted. “It’s called lively. Besides, it’s good for health.” Sakura stuck her nose up in the air. “Being too lively is bad.” Syaoran said, disinterested. “Oh! I’ve had enough. The last time I went to the Li Clan, you were at least bearable. But now…” “You guys know each other?” a slightly surprised voice asked. Both jumped a mile and fell back to earth panting. Staring at them curiously was Jadeite and Kou. “You guys scared us to death.” Sakura panted. “How did you guys get up here anyway?” Syaoran demanded. “We jumped up of course. But never mind about that. You guys know each other?” Jadeite asked. “Jumped up?” Sakura asked. “Yeah.” Kou said indifferently. “Okay…” Sakura sweatdropped. “Anyway, you haven’t answered my question yet.” Jadeite reminded. “Oh. Yes. I went to the Li Mansion for business and met him.” Sakura informed. “But let’s not prattle about the past shall we.” Syaoran hinted. “Yeah.” Sakura nodded. “Well, this is a nice scene.” A foreign voice sang. The door squeaked open to reveal Yelan and Yue Yu. “Well, Yelan has decided to stay here for a month.” Yue Yu smiled. A month? Jadeite smiled gratefully and glanced at Kou, who smiled back. “Sakura?” Yue Yu turned to the auburn haired girl. “Yes?” Sakura bowed. “Show Jadeite to her new room and make sure she feels comfortable. As for Kou and Syaoran, just place them near your rooms.” Yue Yu ordered, “I’ll take the liberty of showing Yelan to her room myself, so you need not worry about that.” “Yes Mistress Yue Yu.” Sakura bowed again and led the rest out of the room. Before leaving the room, Kou turned and faced Yelan and Yue Yu with a suspicious look. He then closed the door behind him. “I think that boy suspects something.” Yue Yu smiled slyly. “You think.” Yelan said dryly, “That boy will realize a pin being dropped in the middle of a massive celebration. Yue Yu sweatdropped at her friend’s sarcastic statement, “Well, that boy is Darkness, what did you expect?” “I see. But, he’s rather happy around Light though.” Yelan observed. “Jadeite did bring him out of his shell.” Yue Yu insisted, “But I wonder if she could do it in a few minutes.” “Maybe, I hope so. I’d hate to see Magika fall into darkness.” Yelan sighed. “But please train the boy well; I’d hate to see a possible good fight go to waste.” Yue Yu chuckled. “You’ve always been this twisted Yue Yu.” Yelan raised her eyebrows. “Thank you.” Yue Yu laughed. Overhead, a single white bird flew, it twittered slightly as if laughing. This was getting interesting. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Unknown place) “Mistress. She has come.” a single humped figure bowed towards a massive throne. “Good. You may go.” a cloaked figure waved a pale hand to dismiss him. The figure ran off. Laughter rang out from besides the throne. “She’s here. Both of them are.” a disembodied voice said sinisterly. “And I’ll make sure they both will never see another day once I get to meet them.” the cloaked figure growled. “Don’t be so impatient Tenko. When shall we send out the first one?” the voice smiled. “Not now. Let the girl master the power of the ‘Maiden’ first. If she fails to do that, we won’t even need to dirty our hands on her.” the cloaked voice said decisively. “As twisted as ever. I like the way you think.” the voice flowed as smoothly as silver. “The feeling is mutual, I assure you.” the cloaked figure ignored the voice and her mind began to scheme on a foolproof plan; a plan to make sure that the Bearer of Light would be taken care of. Author Notes: Long chapter. Sorry took so long. My computer caught a virus, and my father wouldn’t let me use it till he reset the whole dang thing. The chapter was half complete, and I was too lazy to type it all out on the laptop again. But anyway, here is the real beginning. Too me so long to introduce all the main characters huh. In fact, there is still one more main character to go- the last person to complete the circle. Who is it? (For those who watch Cardcaptor Sakura, and read the prophesy properly, you should know already…) BTW, I’ll call myself Ichigo for short, okay? Muse Rants and Torture- Jadeite: What took you so long! Author: Stuff. The New Zealand trip, a lot of homework, CCA, stress, exams and ‘Fantasy in Reality’. Sakura: I think Fantasy in Reality is easier to digest than Angel Wings. I’m confused already. Syaoran: So am I. Author: That’s because my mindset is more complicated than yours. Akino: Hey everyone! What’s up! Jadeite: What are you doing here? Author: My sentiments exactly. Akino: I decided to drop by. Ichigo was neglecting the whole story too. Kou: It’s not surprising. Author: Hey, I’ve got the whole story written out already! Just wait for me to finish typing this thing out, and then I’ll go type the dang thing. Akino: Let’s go already! (Drags the writer away) Author: Arghh, wait! Remember to send your comments to cute_little_ichigo@hotmail.com! I’ll be waitinggggggggggggggggggggggg! (Gets pulled out of the door) Everyone: (Sweatdrops) Ai added colour at 2:15 AM
